By Silvanus, a faithful brother as I regard him, I have written briefly to you, exhorting and declaring that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.

– 1 Peter 5:12

Lord God:

Only your true grace is sure footing on the shifting, sinking, sandy paths of life. Adversaries will come against us. Temptations will ensnare us. Doubt and unbelief will divert us. As we journey toward our heavenly city, every step along our way will be fraught with peril.

Yet your grace is a sure and steady place to stand. We can stand firm in knowing that you have chosen us before the foundation of the earth. We can stand firm in knowing that your Spirit has consecrated us and made us holy in your sight. We can stand firm in knowing that your Son has sprinkled us with his blood when we obeyed his gospel. We can stand firm in your true grace.

We praise you, Father, Son, and Spirit, for your working of true, saving grace in our lives. Help us to set our eyes on you as we stand firm in it. Amen.

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name

When darkness hides His lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay

When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne

On Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand
